Legal Counsel (VP) – Insurance, 12+PQE
Location: Singapore or Malaysia

The Legal Counsel will play a key role in supporting the Asia legal team with a variety of legal and regulatory matters concerning the operations of a global reinsurance company in Southeast Asia. The focus will be on providing legal advice to help manage risks and ensure compliance with relevant laws and industry standards. The role will encompass a broad spectrum of legal areas, including corporate matters, regulatory issues, product development, as well as insurance contracts and claims.

• Provide legal advice on insurance business operations and related activities.
• Advise on the drafting, negotiation, and management of insurance contracts and claims.
• Conduct legal and regulatory reviews of transactions, including drafting and negotiating terms.
• Collaborate with external counsel where necessary.
• Address legal, regulatory, and compliance matters related to business strategies and products.
• Review and negotiate commercial agreements with external business partners, brokers, and agents.
• Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments impacting relevant business areas.
• Work with colleagues across jurisdictions, providing cross-border legal support.
• Contribute to group projects and initiatives as needed.
• Participate in governance activities and assist with internal and external approvals.

Requirements

• A minimum of 12 (PQE), with a law degree from a reputable university.
• Experience in insurance law and a solid understanding of regulatory matters, especially in cross-border settings.
• Able to work independently and in collaboration with others across various jurisdictions.
• Strong written and spoken English skills; proficiency in an Asian language is a plus.
• Good communication and negotiation abilities.
• Prior experience in handling multiple jurisdictions and regulatory topics is an advantage.
