In our third episode of ‘Beyond the Bio’, Ryan Noo, Senior Consultant, discusses his career switch from performance marketing at a consumer bank to executive recruitment.

    Data-driven Similarities

Reflecting on his transition, Ryan shares, “In marketing, it’s very performance-driven with numbers, while in recruitment, it’s also performance-driven but with a people-oriented slant.”

Ryan finds his marketing skills to be highly applicable in his current role. Recruitment is far more data-oriented than he initially believed, which means that his performance marketing skillset has proved extremely useful.

    The Reward for Recruiters

Ryan finds executive recruitment to be a particularly rewarding industry. To him, speaking to clients and candidates provides inspiration on how to lead his own life and chart his path. This aspect of the job, he notes, is what makes recruitment exciting and fulfilling.

For Ryan, the ultimate reward in recruitment comes from the impact made on candidates’ lives. “When you manage to find them something that changes their life, I think that is very, very rewarding.”

    A Long-term Commitment

For those contemplating a career in recruitment, Ryan highlights the importance of viewing it as a long-term commitment to truly reap the rewards.

“It’s probably not something that you could come in and ‘test the waters’ for six months. You wouldn’t really experience the full scope of the work. But if you’ve done your research, it’s going to be both exciting and rewarding in the long run!”
