Enterprise AI Platform Engineering Lead

A leading investment organisation is seeking an Enterprise AI Platform Engineering Lead to build, operate, and scale its enterprise AI platform. This is a unique opportunity to establish the foundational platform that will enable secure, scalable, and governed AI capabilities across the organisation. Reporting to senior technology leadership, the role will lead the engineering strategy, platform architecture, and operational excellence required to support enterprise AI adoption.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for defining and executing the enterprise AI platform strategy, building a secure, resilient, and scalable platform that enables business teams to develop and deploy AI solutions efficiently. The role will oversee the design, implementation, and day-to-day operation of the platform, ensuring high availability, performance, observability, security, and operational reliability.

You will establish platform engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, driving automation, infrastructure-as-code, DevSecOps, monitoring, incident management, disaster recovery, and continuous improvement across the platform. Working closely with enterprise architects, security teams, and business stakeholders, you will ensure the platform meets governance, compliance, and enterprise security requirements.

The successful candidate will also manage external engineering partners and vendors, providing technical leadership, architectural oversight, and delivery governance while ensuring engineering quality and operational excellence. As AI capabilities continue to evolve, you will evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies where appropriate to future-proof the platform.

Requirements

You possess extensive experience leading platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or developer platform teams within large-scale enterprise or technology environments. You have a proven track record of building, operating, and scaling mission-critical digital platforms, with deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, observability, automation, and platform operations.

You are comfortable owning production platforms throughout their lifecycle, including platform strategy, operational resilience, scalability, incident management, and vendor management. Experience leading outsourced engineering teams or implementation partners will be highly regarded.

Experience with AI, machine learning platforms, or Generative AI technologies would be advantageous but is not essential. More importantly, you possess strong platform engineering fundamentals and are excited by the opportunity to build the enterprise platform that will underpin future AI capabilities.
