Legal Counsel, Commodity Trading

About the Company
Our client is a leading energy and commodities group with an established presence across Asia. The organization supports a diverse portfolio spanning energy trading, bunkering, freight, lubricants and petrochemicals. They are currently looking to add a new headcount to the existing legal team to provide legal support for all trading & shipping matters.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will provide legal support on a broad range of trading and shipping matters. You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating trading, shipping and other commercial agreements, while providing practical and commercially focused advice to facilitate business activities. The role will also involve managing contentious matters, coordinating with external counsel where required, monitoring relevant legal and regulatory developments, and supporting strategic projects and governance initiatives across the business. You will also be required to support projects related matters for the organization.
Requirements
You are a common law-qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience, ideally gained within the energy and commodities trading sector. You possess strong experience advising on trading-related transactions, contract negotiations and commercial risk management, coupled with a pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, partnering closely with business stakeholders, and contributing to the development of a commercially effective legal function. Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills are essential.
